Sophisticated Shapes of Censorship

Fourth Year Thesis project at OCAD university

Book

This artist book explores censorship in post-1979 Iran as a visual system of control. Through comparisons of original and altered films, television, album covers, and books, it reveals how images and narratives are reshaped to align with state values. By examining what is hidden or erased, the work highlights how censorship operates not only politically, but through a distinct and normalized visual language.

Colors and Shapes of Ballet

Fourth Year Thesis project at OCAD university

Prints, Animation

In this work, I use real archival photographs combined with Persian carpet motifs to create collages that explore the act of censorship. Simultaneously, the work reintroduces distinctly Iranian shapes and patterns into the realm of ballet and opera, in which at the time were considered a western art form. These vibrant, culturally rich elements bring color to the black and white images that fail to really capture the grandness of this part of Iranian history of performance art.
